Ancient Intelligence
for Modern Bodies

Over 27 years of clinical experience. Rooted in tradition. Open to the future.

Acupuncture is one of the world’s oldest and most carefully developed systems of healing — a practice that sees the body not as a collection of parts, but as an intelligent whole.

What is Acupuncture

A Living System of
Healing Intelligence

At the heart of acupuncture is the concept of Qi — the vital energy that flows through pathways called meridians throughout the body. When this flow is smooth and balanced, we experience health. When it is blocked or disrupted, illness and pain follow.

Acupuncture involves the careful insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points along these meridians — chosen through thousands of years of clinical refinement.

At Oren Ziv’s practice in Mafra, acupuncture is combined with Japanese techniques, Master Tung’s points, and when appropriate, laser acupuncture for patients who prefer a needle-free experience.

The Science Behind It

How Acupuncture Works
on Your Body

Research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) confirms what practitioners have observed for centuries — acupuncture triggers real, measurable changes in the body.

01

Activates the Nervous System

Needle stimulation activates the central nervous system — sending signals through the spinal cord and brain that modulate pain, regulate organ function, and calm the stress response.

02

Releases Healing Biochemicals

Acupuncture triggers the release of endorphins, serotonin, and anti-inflammatory compounds — initiating your body’s own capacity for recovery and repair.

03

Restores Systemic Balance

By addressing the underlying pattern — not just the symptom — acupuncture supports lasting change: better sleep, reduced pain, improved digestion, and stronger immune regulation.

Your First Visit

What to Expect
in a Session

No two sessions are the same. Each visit begins with careful observation and questioning — because in Chinese medicine, the process of understanding a person is part of the treatment itself.

Step 01

Intake & Consultation

We begin with a detailed conversation about your health history, current symptoms, sleep, digestion, and emotional state. Pulse and tongue diagnosis provide additional insight.

Step 02

Pattern Diagnosis

Based on TCM principles, a diagnosis is formed — not a disease label, but a description of which systems are out of balance and why.

Step 03

Needle Placement

Fine, sterile needles are placed at selected points. Most patients feel little to no discomfort — often a sensation of warmth, heaviness, or deep relaxation.

Step 04

Rest & Integration

Needles remain for 20–30 minutes as you rest quietly. Afterward, Oren reviews the session and discusses the treatment plan going forward.

The Impact of Acupuncture on Your Body

Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system, triggering a release of chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes can harness your body’s natural healing abilities, promoting both physical and emotional well-being. Notably, research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has shown acupuncture to be effective as a standalone treatment or in combination with conventional therapies for various conditions, including:

Nausea caused by surgical anesthesia and cancer chemotherapy
Dental pain after surgery
Addiction
Headaches
Menstrual cramps
Tennis elbow
Fibromyalgia
Myofascial pain
Osteoarthritis
Low back pain
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Asthma
Stroke rehabilitation

Choosing Acupuncture Wisely

Choosing Acupuncture Wisely

Given that acupuncture’s mechanism of action isn’t fully understood in Western medicine, it can sometimes be a topic of debate. To make informed decisions about acupuncture:

  • Begin by discussing acupuncture with your healthcare provider.
  • Be sure to communicate with all the treatments and medications you’re currently using.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a pacemaker, are at risk for infection, have chronic skin problems, are pregnant, or have implants.
  • Avoid solely relying on an acupuncture diagnosis; consult your healthcare provider for a comprehensive assessment.
  • Select a licensed acupuncture practitioner who meets the necessary standards and certifications, and consider referrals from your doctor, friends, or family.
  • Understand the costs and insurance coverage involved in acupuncture treatment before embarking on your healing journey.
