Oren Ziv — Acupuncture Practitioner Specialising in Laser Therapy and Auricular Medicine
My name is Oren Ziv. I have been practising Chinese medicine for 27 years — across hospitals, private clinics, and teaching environments in Israel and Portugal.
I work at the intersection of traditional acupuncture and modern laser therapy. My approach integrates Japanese acupuncture, Master Tung’s points, German auricular medicine, and photobiomodulation — guided throughout by the Vascular Autonomic Signal (VAS), a precise real-time diagnostic method that reflects how the autonomic nervous system responds to treatment.
My clinic is in Mafra, Portugal. I treat patients from Ericeira, Cascais, Sintra, and the wider Lisbon coast. Consultations are available in English and Portuguese.
Clinical Background
I began my formal training in 1995 at the Israeli College of Complementary Medicine, completing a four-year diploma in Chinese medicine in 1998. The programme covered 3,800 hours across TCM theory, acupuncture, western medicine, anatomy, physiology, and clinical practice — including modules in Master Tung’s acupuncture, Dr Tan’s method, and auricular acupuncture.
Simultaneously I completed a specialisation in Japanese acupuncture at KMI in 1997–1998, developing the refined palpation and needling technique that remains central to my clinical work today.
From 2000 to 2007 I worked as a TCM practitioner at Maccabi Hospital in Israel — one of the country’s largest healthcare networks — treating a wide range of complex chronic and acute conditions in an institutional setting. This experience shaped how I approach diagnosis: rigorously, without assumptions, and always from the patient’s actual presentation rather than from a protocol.
From 2010 to 2022 I ran a private clinic in Israel, continuing to develop my practice while simultaneously teaching therapists in acupuncture, laser therapy, and auricular medicine from 2009 onwards.
Specialisation in Laser Therapy and Auricular Medicine
Between 2019 and 2021 I completed a specialisation in laser acupuncture and auricular medicine at the European Laser Academy — one of the leading institutions in Europe for advanced laser therapy training. This deepened my work with the Nogier and Bahr frequency systems, the VAS diagnostic method, and the clinical integration of photobiomodulation with traditional acupuncture approaches.
Laser therapy transformed how I work clinically. It gave me a diagnostic tool — the VAS — that reveals what the nervous system is actually responding to, not just what the patient reports as their main complaint. And it gave me a treatment modality that can reach tissue and nerve pathways that needles alone cannot address with the same precision.
Today I use the RJ-Laser system — German-made devices that integrate programmable Nogier, Bahr, and Reininger frequencies — for both diagnosis and treatment in every session.
Continuing Education in Portugal
Since establishing my practice in Portugal in recent years,, I have continued formal education in the Portuguese healthcare system. In 2025 I completed two professional certification programmes at EPAP in Lisbon — a 2,110-hour specialisation in Traditional Chinese Medicine and a 220-hour advanced module in TCM techniques — both with a final grade of 18 out of 20.
This ongoing education reflects my commitment to maintaining the highest clinical standards within the Portuguese regulatory environment and to continuing to develop my practice as medicine evolves.

How I Work
Every patient I see presents differently — even when the diagnosis on paper is the same. Two patients with chronic back pain may have completely different root causes, different emotional and physical histories, and different responses to treatment.
My work begins with understanding that difference. Using the VAS I can identify whether a condition is physical, emotional, or both — and locate the affected area in the body with a precision that standard examination cannot achieve. Treatment is then built around that specific finding, not around a generic protocol for the presenting complaint.
I offer treatments both with and without needles. For patients who prefer a completely non-invasive approach, laser acupuncture provides an effective and painless alternative. For patients open to needles, I use Japanese acupuncture and Master Tung’s points — some of the most clinically precise acupuncture systems available.
In follow-up sessions I also integrate food sensitivity testing using the VAS and, where appropriate, Bach flower remedies, Australian Bush Flowers, and Californian essences — addressing the emotional and energetic dimensions of health that conventional medicine often overlooks.
I work in English and Portuguese. My clinic is in Mafra, 10 minutes from Ericeira and easily accessible from Cascais, Sintra, and the Lisbon area.
